What is Buttcoin? (BUTTCOIN)

Buttcoin (BUTTCOIN) is the official token of the Buttcoin Foundation, the satirical community that has been mocking Bitcoin and cryptocurrency since 2011 with its tagline "It's Bitcoins with Butts!" The r/Buttcoin subreddit, now well past 200,000 members, has long been one of the internet's most active crypto-skeptic communities, documenting scams, failures, and the absurd side of the industry.

The BUTTCOIN token launched on Solana on January 9, 2026, with a fixed supply of approximately 1 billion tokens. It was endorsed by Barry Oners, who claims to be the creator of the original $Buttcoin meme from over 15 years ago. The token represents the community finally creating the coin they spent over a decade joking about.

BUTTCOIN is available on centralized exchanges like LBank, MEXC and KCEX, as well as Solana DEXs, where the PumpSwap pool carries nearly all of the on-chain liquidity. The token bottomed near $0.0034 in late January 2026 and then ran roughly 14x to an all-time high of about $0.049 on February 7, a level it has not revisited since.

The "Buttcoin" joke predates BUTTCOIN the token by 15 years. The term showed up on BitcoinTalk as early as 2010 as a throwaway insult. In 2011, r/Buttcoin was created on Reddit, and the Buttcoin Foundation blog launched around the same time under the tagline "It's Bitcoins with Butts!" The blog ran until June 2017, when it was archived. The subreddit, Twitter account (@ButtCoin), and assorted IRC channels kept running, and the community stayed active through every crypto cycle, documenting the industry's worst moments in real time.

The most-cited Buttcoin moment happened in September 2014, when a hacker defaced Satoshi Nakamoto's Bitcoin SourceForge page and renamed the project to "Buttcoin" with the tagline "Buttcoin is a peer-to-peer butt." SourceForge restored the page within hours, but the screenshot is permanent. It is the closest thing the Buttcoin community has to a canonical moment.

The actual BUTTCOIN token launched on Solana on January 9, 2026, endorsed by the @ButtCoin account. Price ran from around $0.0034 in late January to $0.0494 on February 7, 2026 — a roughly 14x move in about two weeks, putting market cap near $49M at peak. LBank and KCEX listed it within days of launch; MEXC added it in February 2026.

The r/Buttcoin community predates the token by 15 years, and the humor reflects it. This is not a Telegram pump group. The baseline tone is dry, skeptical, and heavy on referential in-jokes about the industry's history of rugs, collapses, and marketing nonsense. Favorite targets include NFT launches that claimed to change the world, CEXs that collapsed with customer funds, and anyone selling a Bitcoin ETF as revolution. The subreddit's top-voted posts are almost always documented failures, not price predictions. With a token now in the picture, the community sits in a genuinely weird position: crypto skeptics who bought their own joke. Some members refuse to engage with the token on principle. Others treat it as the final punchline. The humor has not changed, but the audience has gotten more complicated.
