    Coin Comparison

    Bonk vs Dogwifhat

Solana's two flagship dog coins, compared head to head. One ships products and burns tokens with the revenue. The other is a photograph of a dog in a pink hat with no utility and no apology. Both are SPL tokens on Solana. The thesis gap is wide.

    Solana's Two Dog Coins

Bonk and Dogwifhat are the two dog-themed memecoins that define the Solana memecoin cycle of 2023-2024. Both are SPL tokens on Solana. Both use a Shiba Inu as the mascot. The similarity ends there. BONK launched on Christmas Day 2022, six weeks after FTX collapsed, with half its supply airdropped to the Solana ecosystem. It has since shipped products: BonkBot, a Telegram trading bot that generates real fee revenue, and letsBONK.fun, a launchpad competing with Pump.fun. WIF launched in November 2023 with no team, no roadmap, no utility, and a fixed supply just under 999 million. It is a photograph of a dog in a pink hat. The comparison is the clearest illustration of two distinct memecoin models on the same chain.

    Where They Came From

BONK launched on December 25, 2022 as an SPL token on Solana, six weeks after FTX filed for bankruptcy. SOL was trading around $10, the ecosystem narrative was dead, and an anonymous team airdropped roughly 50 trillion BONK, about half the 100 trillion total supply, to Solana NFT holders, DeFi users, and devs. Many people woke up on Christmas morning to find hundreds of millions of BONK in their wallets. The timing was almost too good: BONK gave Solana its first feel-good story in months, and the chart pumped in the first two weeks of 2023 with SOL following behind it.

WIF launched on Solana in late November 2023 as an SPL token. The deployer is anonymous. No presale, no allocation, no tax. The image is older: a photo of a Shiba Inu named Achi wearing a pink knit beanie, taken by her owners in November 2018 and spread as a profile-picture trend through 2019. The token grafted the image onto a Solana-native memecoin at the exact moment Solana was pulling back from the FTX wilderness. It crossed $1 billion fully diluted market cap within weeks and kept going into Q1 2024.

The Dog in the Hat is Named Achi

The dog in the WIF logo is Achi, a Shiba Inu in South Korea. Her owners photographed her in a pink knit beanie in November 2018, and the image spread as a profile-picture trend through 2019, years before the token launched. The same photo sold as an NFT for 1,210 ETH, about $4.3 million, in March 2024. The token is not officially endorsed by the owner; it is fan-driven use of a viral image. The specificity of the image is what made it stick: "dog in pink knit hat" is harder to dilute than "cartoon Shiba."

    Tokenomics: Deflationary vs Static

BONK launched with 100 trillion tokens and can never mint more. Community burn events and ongoing product revenue burns have taken that down to roughly 88 trillion. BonkBot and letsBONK.fun route a portion of their fee revenue into BONK buybacks and burns, which gives the tokenomics an input that is not purely sentiment-driven. The burn is real but small: roughly a tenth of the original supply since launch. The honest framing is that BONK is technically deflationary with a revenue-linked burn mechanism, not that the burn is moving the price on its own. BONK also has a balance-sheet holder WIF does not: Bonk Holdings, a Nasdaq-listed company that rebranded out of a beverage business to hold BONK as a treasury asset and now sits on close to 3% of supply. Bitcoin Capital has listed a physically backed BONK ETP on the SIX Swiss Exchange since November 2025. Nothing equivalent trades in the US: a spot BONK ETF and two leveraged or income products sit with the SEC, and none of them has launched. Whether a single concentrated holder is a floor or an overhang depends on the week.

WIF has a fixed supply just under 999 million tokens, all circulating. No burn, no mint, no staking, no tax. The supply today is the supply in five years. There is no inflation to dilute holders and no deflationary lever to reduce supply. The tokenomics are the simplest possible: one image, fixed supply, listed on every major CEX. The lack of any mechanism is the pitch.

The three things that actually differ

    • BONK burns tokens via product revenue. WIF has no burn and never will.
    • BONK has revenue-generating products. WIF has no products and no team.
    • BONK supply is measured in tens of trillions, so per-token price is fractions of a cent. WIF supply is ~999M, so per-token price is in dollars.

    Products vs Stunts

BONK's distinguishing feature is that it ships products. BonkBot, a Telegram-native trading bot for Solana, became one of the highest-grossing bots on the network in 2023. It charges a fee on each trade and routes a portion into BONK buybacks and burns. letsBONK.fun, launched in April 2025 with Raydium, competes directly with Pump.fun as a token launchpad, with platform fees also feeding back into BONK tokenomics. Both products generate real fee revenue, which is genuinely different from WIF, POPCAT, or the dog-of-the-week on Pump.fun. The catch is that the product moat is thin. letsBONK.fun briefly took most of Solana's launchpad share in mid-2025 and then lost nearly all of it back to Pump.fun, which now runs the overwhelming majority of new launches. Trading bots and launchpads are commodities, and the incumbent won.

WIF has no products, no team, and no roadmap. What it has is stunts. The community crowdfunded a Times Square billboard and, in March 2024, roughly $690,000 to put the hat dog on the Las Vegas Sphere. The Sphere booking never existed, the campaign was abandoned in April 2025, and refunds began then. The episode became the defining "top signal" moment of the 2024 Solana memecoin run. The cultural tell is that WIF holders will coordinate capital for a joke with no expected return. Critics call it burning money on the top. Holders call it paying for the meme to exist in physical space.

The Las Vegas Sphere That Never Happened

The Sphere campaign is the single most-cited moment in WIF's history, and it is a story about failure. The community raised roughly $690,000 in March 2024, the official account teased a Q1 2025 appearance, Sphere Entertainment then said it had never had a deal with Dogwifhat, and refunds began on April 1, 2025. The episode is widely treated as the cultural top signal of the 2024 Solana memecoin cycle. It is also the clearest expression of WIF's community model: coordinated capital for a stunt with no return, funded by holders because there is no team treasury to fund it.

    Community: Tribal vs Shrugging

The Bonk Army lives on X and in large Telegram groups. It is noticeably more Solana-tribal than the average memecoin community. The bit is "bonking" anything that takes itself too seriously, including other memecoins. The posting leans heavy on baseball-bat GIFs and blue-chip Solana NFT banter. The community has run burn votes, funded animal-shelter donations, and sponsored smaller Solana projects through community grants. The shared framing is that BONK is Solana's mascot token, a kind of network pride object rather than a pure gamble. That governance is also BONK's clearest vulnerability. In July 2026 an attacker bought just over 1% of the supply for about $4.4 million, passed a proposal in a near-empty vote, and moved roughly 4.4 trillion BONK — about $20 million — out of the DAO treasury. Token-weighted voting with a low quorum turned the community's biggest asset into its attack surface.

WIF's community is almost entirely on X. The shared joke is that there is no joke beyond 'hat.' Profile pictures get the pink beanie photoshopped on. Replies are dog emojis, hat emojis, and 'gm wif hat.' It is less tribal than BONK and less aggressive than PEPE. The tone is closer to a shared shrug: if you get it, you get it. The willingness to spend money on stunts without expected return is the cultural signature.

    Performance: Different Peaks, Same Volatility

BONK hit an all-time high near $0.0000583 in November 2024 on the post-election rally. December 2023 set the prior high around $0.00003416. Launch-era airdrop recipients who held saw five-figure-percent returns. Growth legs have come from BonkBot and letsBONK.fun, not just meme cycles. Neither leg held. BONK trades around 95% below the November 2024 high, with a market cap in the low hundreds of millions against roughly $6 billion at the peak. Product revenue softened the fall; it did not stop it.

WIF hit an all-time high near $4.85 in late March 2024, putting the fully diluted market cap north of $4 billion at the peak. It crossed $1 billion market cap within weeks of launch. It dropped 80%+ from the March 2024 ATH into mid-2024, and never recovered. WIF sits roughly 95% below the March 2024 high, a few hundred million in market cap against nearly $5 billion at the top. Daily swings of 10-30% are normal. No revenue, no burn, no floor. Price is pure sentiment and Solana beta.

    Which One Fits Your Thesis?

Bet on Bonk if you want the memecoin with a side business

BONK is the cleaner expression of "Solana memecoin with revenue." BonkBot and letsBONK.fun generate real fees that route into buybacks and burns, giving the tokenomics a partial fundamentals floor that WIF does not have. The moat is also thinner than it looked: launchpad share swung back to Pump.fun, and the July 2026 treasury drain showed the governance layer is exploitable by anyone willing to buy 1% of the float. If the products plateau, BONK reverts to being priced like every other Solana dog coin.

Bet on Dogwifhat if you want pure Solana meme velocity

WIF is the cleaner expression of "memecoin as a leveraged bet on Solana attention." No utility claims to break, no roadmap to miss, no team to go rogue. Fixed supply means no inflation. The image is sticky and recognized across crypto Twitter. The risk is symmetric: no floor under it. No revenue, no burn, no products. It goes up when Solana memes trend and gets destroyed when they rotate. The Sphere episode drained some of the reflexive belief that WIF was the blue-chip Solana meme.

Where to buy BONK and WIF

Both are Solana SPL tokens, so a Solana DEX or bot works as well as a centralised exchange. These links go straight to the token where the venue supports it.
