WEEX review: fees, memecoins and safety

    Last reviewed September 9, 2026

    Our verdict

WEEX is a derivatives-first offshore exchange whose memecoin appeal is the perpetual book — DOGE, PEPE, SHIB, BONK, WIF, FLOKI, POPCAT and FARTCOIN all trade there, and futures fees are 0.02% maker / 0.08% taker. Spot is a flat 0.1% both sides, which is twice MEXC’s taker rate, so it is the wrong venue if you just want to buy and hold.

    Best for
Traders outside the excluded jurisdictions who want memecoin perpetuals with copy trading, and who accept an offshore venue with no meaningful regulatory backstop.
    Not for
US, Canadian, Singaporean, Hong Kong, South Korean, mainland Chinese or UAE residents, spot-only buyers looking for the cheapest fill, and anyone who wants to hold long term on the exchange.

    In short

    • Spot fees are a flat 0.1% for both maker and taker; futures are 0.02% maker and 0.08% taker, with up to 70% off futures fees for WXT-holding VIP tiers.
    • Launched in 2018 and publishes a 1,000 BTC Protection Fund with a disclosed on-chain address.
    • Sign-up and crypto trading work without KYC, which cuts both ways: fast entry, weak recourse.
    • The Terms of Use exclude the US and its territories, Canada, mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, the UAE and sanctioned states.

    Overview

WEEX launched in 2018 and sells itself on derivatives: perpetual futures, copy trading and a published protection fund, rather than the broad spot listings that draw memecoin buyers to MEXC or Gate. For a memecoin trader the practical question is whether the coin you want has a perpetual contract with enough depth to trade, and for the well-known names it usually does.

The fee structure tells you what the venue is for. Spot is a flat 0.1% for makers and takers — in line with the mainstream CEXs, twice MEXC’s 0.05% taker rate, and with no maker rebate. Futures are 0.02% maker and 0.08% taker, and WEEX publishes discounts of up to 70% on futures fees for VIP tiers that hold WXT, its exchange token. In other words: pay retail on spot, and the maker side on leverage is where the pricing gets interesting.

The trust story is a mixed one that deserves stating plainly. On the credit side, WEEX publishes a 1,000 BTC Protection Fund with an on-chain address anyone can check, and states it will cover losses that occur through no fault of the user. On the debit side, it holds money-services registrations rather than exchange licences, KYC is optional for crypto trading, and its Terms of Use exclude a long list of regulated markets — including the entire United States and Canada. Third-party trackers have also reported a 2025 cease-and-desist order from a US state regulator. Treat WEEX as an offshore trading venue, not a custodian.

    Memecoin coverage

The spot market list includes BONK, DOGE, FARTCOIN, FLOKI, PEPE, POPCAT, SHIB, TRUMP and WIF as USDT pairs, alongside a long tail of newer tickers — WEEX’s public products endpoint is the fastest way to confirm a pair exists before you fund an account.

Perpetuals are where the liquidity is. If your thesis is directional and short-dated, a memecoin perp on WEEX avoids the withdrawal-fee round trip of buying spot and moving it on-chain.

Fresh launches are not here. A coin that graduated from a launchpad today lives on-chain only; a Solana terminal or Telegram bot is the entry, and WEEX becomes relevant later if the coin survives long enough to be listed.

    What it costs

    • Spot: 0.1% for both maker and taker. There is no maker rebate, so a resting limit order costs the same as a market order.
    • Futures: 0.02% maker and 0.08% taker at the base tier, charged on the notional value of the position, not on your margin.
    • Holding WXT and reaching a VIP tier unlocks up to 70% off futures fees according to WEEX’s own fee guide; the discount does not apply to spot.
    • Withdrawal fees are per coin and per network and change with network conditions — WEEX publishes the current figure at the bottom of the withdrawal screen rather than in a fixed table.
    • Funding payments on perpetuals are a separate, recurring cost that can dwarf the trading fee on a memecoin contract held through a squeeze.

    Pros

    • Deep memecoin perpetual coverage including DOGE, PEPE, SHIB, BONK, WIF, FLOKI, POPCAT and FARTCOIN.
    • Competitive futures fees, with published VIP discounts of up to 70% for WXT holders.
    • A 1,000 BTC protection fund with a publicly disclosed on-chain address, which most offshore venues do not provide.
    • Trading works without KYC, so a small first position needs no document upload.
    • Copy trading is built in for traders who want to follow rather than lead.

    Cons

    • Spot fees of 0.1% both sides are uncompetitive against MEXC’s 0% maker / 0.05% taker.
    • Long list of excluded jurisdictions, including the whole US and Canada.
    • Money-services registrations are not exchange licences; there is no deposit protection scheme behind your balance.
    • Optional KYC means weaker identity controls and weaker recourse if an account is frozen.
    • Third-party trackers report a 2025 cease-and-desist order from a US state regulator — worth reading before you deposit.
    • Custodial: your coins are an entry in WEEX’s ledger until you withdraw.

    How to buy on WEEX

    1. 1

Check you are not in an excluded jurisdiction

The Terms of Use exclude the US and its territories, Canada, mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, the UAE and sanctioned states. Accessing from an excluded market risks account closure and forced liquidation regardless of any VPN.

    2. 2

Create the account and lock it down

Register with an email address, then enable two-factor authentication with an authenticator app before you deposit anything.

    3. 3

      Fund with USDT

Transfer USDT in from another exchange or wallet on the cheapest supported network. Card routes go through third-party providers whose spread is far bigger than any trading fee.

    4. 4

Confirm the market you want exists

Search the ticker in both the spot and futures lists, and cross-check the contract address WEEX shows against the address on our coin page — memecoin ticker collisions are routine.

    5. 5

Use limit orders, and size for the fee model

Spot pays 0.1% whether you make or take, so there is no rebate to chase — but a limit order still protects you from slippage on a thin book. On futures, the maker rate is four times cheaper than the taker rate.

    6. 6

Withdraw anything you intend to keep

Send spot holdings to a wallet you control, ideally behind a hardware wallet. Test with a small amount before moving a full position.

    Safety and risks

    • The protection fund is a company commitment, not insurance or a statutory guarantee. Do not treat it as equivalent to deposit protection.
    • Optional KYC is convenient until something goes wrong; an unverified account has the least leverage in a dispute.
    • Perpetual futures liquidate. On memecoin contracts a routine 20% candle wipes a 5x position, and funding costs accrue while you wait to be right.
    • Enable 2FA with an authenticator app rather than SMS, and set a withdrawal allow-list if the account settings offer one.
    • If your country is on the excluded list, the risk is not just a blocked page — WEEX reserves the right to close accounts and liquidate positions held from those markets.

Nothing here is financial advice. Memecoins are high-risk and can go to zero; only risk what you can afford to lose.

    Alternatives to WEEX

    • MEXC Cheaper for spot at 0% maker / 0.05% taker, with faster long-tail listings and both spot and perp markets in one account.
    • Bitunix A similar offshore derivatives venue with a wider memecoin perp list and slightly better spot maker fees.
    • Hyperliquid If perpetuals are the point, an on-chain order book keeps custody in your own wallet.

    Frequently asked questions

    Can US residents use WEEX?

No. WEEX’s Terms of Use list the United States and its territories as an excluded jurisdiction, along with Canada. US buyers should use a domestic regulated exchange, or self-custody plus an on-chain venue.

What does WEEX charge to trade memecoins?

Spot is a flat 0.1% for makers and takers. Futures are 0.02% maker and 0.08% taker at the base tier, with published discounts of up to 70% for VIP tiers holding WXT. Withdrawal network fees and perpetual funding are separate.

Do I need KYC on WEEX?

Crypto trading works without verification. That speeds up a first position but leaves you with less recourse if the account is frozen, and fiat routes and higher limits still expect identity checks.

Is the 1,000 BTC protection fund real?

WEEX publishes the fund and an on-chain address you can inspect yourself, which is more transparency than most offshore venues offer. It is still a discretionary company commitment to cover losses that are not the user’s fault, not insurance and not a statutory guarantee.

Is WEEX better than MEXC for memecoins?

For spot buying, no — MEXC is materially cheaper and lists the long tail faster. For memecoin perpetuals with copy trading, WEEX is the more purpose-built venue of the two.
